Course

Mobile learning boot camp [Code: 1DMLBC]

Who is the course suitable for?

Primary and secondary teachers (and teaching assistants) and NQTs.

About the course:

In the UK, smartphones have now surpassed laptops as the preferred choice for how people get online, and tablet ownership per household continues to grow year on year. Mobile learning has also been shown to be effective at helping to bridge the gap between formal and informal learning. These facts all make powerful arguments for teachers using mobile learning interventions as part of their teaching toolkit. You'll also be familiar at how each of your pupils has their own unique needs. How often have you found a great piece of software but wanted to tweak the text or an image slightly, and then you've been frustrated at not being able to do so?

This course will support you in delivering quality mobile learning interventions for your pupils by putting you, the teacher (or assistant), firmly in charge of the resource creation (and amendment as needed).

During the course you learn how to create high quality interactive resources which will work equally well on Android, iPhone and iPad devices to match the increasingly diverse range of devices households in the UK use. As part of the course you will also be given a set of dozens of templates to aid in rapidly creating your own mobile learning resources for your pupils. The interactive resources you are shown how to create will also work equally well on desktop and laptop computers.

What the attendee will be able to do at the end of the course:

  • Implement strategies to make informed decisions regarding when (and when not) to use mobile learning in their teaching

  • Create for themselves quality interactive resources compatible with Android, Windows and iOS smartphones and tablets (and that will work on desktop and laptop computers)

How the course benefits an attendee's school:

  • By empowering staff to create their own resources for use with mobile devices it reduces the need to purchase expensive third party curriculum software (often with annual renewal fees); it also future-proofs a school against possible future curricula changes - if mobile learning resources are created in-school by staff, they are more easily and rapidly amended

Post course support:

  • Most definitely, if you want to phone or email a question to the trainer; or send through a resource you’ve created for your trainer’s feedback; this is actively encouraged

  • JSH's +1 offer: At the end of all of our events the trainer will stay behind for an additional hour for any questions you may have or to provide additional support. However, we know at the end of a training event a delegate is often tired, or needs to get home or perhaps return to school. So for all JSH Learning courses, once you have attended a course, the next time that same course is in your area, if you wish to come along at the end of the day to ask a question that arose or you did not get time to ask first time, this is actively encouraged (we just ask you drop us an email first)
